Country music, rodeos -- particularly the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, established in 1896 and one of the oldest continuously operating livestock shows in the United States -- and Western wear represent enduring cultural touchstones that connect modern residents to a historical frontier identity.[12] Fort Worth's Stockyards district, while oriented toward visitors, maintains cultural significance as a symbol of the region's ranching heritage and serves as a venue for live music and Western entertainment. Simultaneously, Dallas has cultivated identity as a center of contemporary art, design, and high culture, with institutions including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth representing significant cultural achievements.
